A town estate agent is gearing up to celebrate four decades of selling homes. Andrew Mortimer, co-director of The Mortimer & Gausden Partnership, began his estate agency career in 1986 and has spent the majority of the 40 years since working in and around his home town of Bury St Edmunds.

He has seen huge changes in the way homes are bought, sold, and marketed during his time; black and white photocopied property details have been replaced by online property portals, social media, professional photography, virtual tours and ever more sophisticated technology.

However, Andrew said some key things remain the same.

“What hasn’t changed is that moving home is an incredibly important and sometimes stressful event in people’s lives,” he said.

“Good estate agency is still about giving sound, honest advice, communicating properly and looking after people.

“I’ve been very fortunate to work with some fantastic people over the years and to have helped thousands of local people with their moves.

“I’m delighted that, 40 years on, I still genuinely enjoy what I do.”

Having worked in his home town for the majority of his career, Andrew has built an extensive knowledge-base of the area’s property market.

In 2008, he and business partner Ian Gausden established Mortimer & Gausden, which earlier this year adopted its new name. (The Mortimer & Gausden Partnership)

“Forty years in any profession is a fantastic achievement – Andrew has an enormous amount of knowledge and experience, but just as importantly he still has the same enthusiasm for the business today,” said Ian.

“We are all extremely proud of what he has achieved and delighted that he remains such a big part of The Mortimer & Gausden Partnership.”

Andrew remains actively involved in the business, with a particular interest in marketing and business development.

He also continues to ensure the firm embraces new technology while retaining a personal approach.
